Il Logistico dell’Anno” is awarded every year to companies and logistics managers by Assologistica, Euromerci and Assologistica Cultura e Formazione. In the “Intermodal Transport” category, Mercitalia Intermodal and Kombiverkehr KG received one of the coveted awards today in Milan for their special achievements in the services between Italy and Germany.

“This award goes to all the employees at Kombiverkehr who, day in, day out, do everything in all areas of the company to create and market attractive, competitive and, above all, climate-friendly train products in the interests of our customers. We are all filled with pride!

Alexander Ochs, Managing Director of Kombiverkehr KG

Both operators are linked by a decades-long partnership. Last year alone, more than 350,000 truck consignments were transported on the trains between the most important economic centres in Germany and Italy. Mercitalia Intermodal and Kombiverkehr are now among the biggest players in combined transport on this important TEN-T corridor in European rail freight transport.

The transports via the Alps to and from Italy are optimally integrated into the intermodal European network. With more than 240 block trains per week, trailers, containers and swap bodies are transported in a particularly environmentally friendly way via the Gotthard, Lötschberg, Tauern and especially the Brenner route. The economic centres of Verona and Milan in the north of Italy, the port of Trieste and industrial locations in the centre of Italy are served in gateway traffic. There are connections to and from the national terminals in Cologne, Ludwigshafen, Bremen, Munich, Nuremberg, Hamburg, Hanover or the Baltic ports of Kiel, Rostock and Lübeck. And in some cases several times a day. With just one booking, transports from Bari at the southernmost tip of Italy to Alnabru near Oslo in Norway are possible in the network’s current range of services. Since the beginning of 2021, Kombiverkehr has also been opening up the Benelux countries with its own service to and from Mortara via Switzerland.

“Mille grazie to our many freight forwarding customers, to all the rail transport companies involved and to all the terminal companies. Without them, this award would never have been possible!”

Armin Riedl, Managing Director Kombiverkehr KG
