After three years of intensive research and development, the KIBA project – which stands for Artificial Intelligence and Discrete Loading Optimization Models for Enhanced Utilization in Combined Transport – has been successfully completed.

This interview appeared in Rail Business, the digital industry report for the entire rail transport market. Rail Business: Paneuropa Transport GmbH was involved in the development of KV 4.0 from the very beginning. How complex was it for you to integrate the data hub into your own transport management system (TMS)? Guido Blömer: Paneuropa was actively involved in the development of KV 4.0 from the outset as one of the first pilot partners. Our main task was to establish a functional connection between our transport management system (TMS) and the KV 4.0 data hub. As is usual with innovation projects, we encountered technical challenges at the beginning – especially because our existing TMS did not meet all the specific requirements of KV 4.0. However, a decisive advantage was our internally used data integration tool, which we were able to use flexibly as an interface. This enabled us to efficiently implement…

The KV 4.0 data hub facilitates simple communication between freight forwarders, operators, infrastructure providers and rail transport companies. It is now available to all interested parties via the joint marketing company DX Intermodal and can be integrated into proprietary transport management systems via an interface.

Kombiverkehr is making massive progress with digitalisation in all areas. The customer portal myKombiverkehr and the KV4.0 data hub are two milestones for the company’s customers. Internal processes are also being digitally improved and optimised. An interim assessment and an outlook.

An exciting project for climate-friendly rail freight transport is currently being planned in Hamm (Westphalia). What was once Germany’s largest marshalling yard will in future become a multimodal rail logistics hub with innovative loading technology linking rail, road and waterways. On a 60-hectare site, DB Cargo is working with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the city of Hamm, the railway and transport union (EVG) Hamm-Bielefeld and Kombiverkehr to develop a multi-hub for sustainable freight transport. If that’s not a milestone for the city on its way to becoming a supraregional and trimodal logistics hub! Showcase project for climate-friendly rail freight transport in Europe In the future, 170,000 truck trips can be transferred to climate-friendly rail via the new “MULTI HUB Westfalen” in order to transport goods to their destination with the smallest possible CO2 footprint. And, of course, to advance the transport turnaround in the freight sector and achieve climate…
